Hi Phoenix008

welcome to geekstogo :)

sorry to keep you waiting. i can see some malware on your machine, but lets do a deeper scan of your machine for me to analyse.

(if your problem has already been resolved, could you just let me know so that i an move onto other logs to help others, thanks)

also, could you turn off word wrap on your notepad, it makes the post hard to read

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

you may need to post the logs over 2 replies to ensure all the information is posted.

a question before we begin: what antivirus program do you have running on your machine? i can see that you have trend micro and norton - out of interest, would i be correct in thinking that you have been trying to uninstall norton?

in this post we will remove the malware i can see and do a couple of scans to see what else is on your machine.

====STEP 1====

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer and Save it to your desktop.

Do NOT run it yet

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.h...a...&pf=desktop
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.h...a...&pf=desktop
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    c:\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List Of Files/Patterns To Search For and Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

====STEP 2====
Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

====STEP 3====
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

In your next reply could i see:
1. the answer to the antivirus question
2. the OTMoveIT log
3. the SUPERantispyware log
4. the kaspersky scan report
5. a new hijackthis log

the scans will most likely take c2 hours to complete.

also, it is possible that there will be a lot of information to post in the next log, therefore you may have to post the information over more than one reply to ensure it is all posted.

Only by going through the Control Panel though. I noticed that my Trend Micro has not automatically updated itself too. So that will have to be done after ive done all these required steps with you.

Step 1

I couldnt figure out where to find the log for the OT move it thing. You were right it couldnt remove the first file path you asked me to copy unless i rebooted so i did. But when i went back into it I couldnt find where I could get the log for you. All i remember seeing in that box was "file path blah blah" failed to move. I dont remember what it said about purity but then it said that a log file has been created and all these numbers and letters. sorry if I didnt do this right.

Step 2

Please tell me that the scan was meant to take 12 hours!! Anyway, heres the log below.

you should be able to find the OTMoveIT log in the folder c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles - it should be the only file in there and be called 02222008_random numbers.log or [/b]02232008_random numbers.log[/b] - if you cant find it, dont worry. if you can, check to see if the file c:\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe is still on your machine - hopefully it should not be there. if you cant, dont worry, we can check later.

we will get rid of the rest of the norton later.

as for the scan, it can take a while though 12 hours is certainly up there for a record.

hopefully the kaspersky scan should take under 2 hours

Ok i found the txt file here is what is said...

File move failed. c:\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe scheduled to be moved on reboot.
[Custom Input]
< Purity >

OTMoveIt2 v1.0.20 log created on 02222008_233255

And that is it. Is this correct?

As for this - c:\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe - yes its in there. Here is the file path to show you where it is

C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\02222008_233255\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe

looks like that file came back so we will clear it now and do a quick scan. we will also clear the remnants of norton and flush your temp folders. everything else is looking good, the antispyware scan and kaspersky scan were clean.

also, there are two accounts on your machine: Melissa (admin) and runescape master.....that look ok to you?

====STEP 1====
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [jbdvnux] c:\users\melissa\appdata\local\jbdvnux.exe jbdvnux

====STEP 2====
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

====STEP 3====
Go HERE and choose the product that is installed and then download the removal tool.
Run it and reboot.
This should get rid of Norton.

====STEP 4====
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

in your next reply could i see:
1. the OTMoveIT log
2. the malwarebytes log
3. a new hijackthis log

Hi Phoenix008

congratulations, your logs are clean :)

Question: Should I be using ATF cleaner? coz im using Vista.

good point, dont use it :)

This site has changed it looks all plain.

that will be an issue with the site, unless you are seeing problems elsewhere.

in this post we will clear away the fix tools, reset your restore points (there will be infections lurking in there) and i will leave you with some ideas on how to enhance the protection of your machine from future infection.

====STEP 1====
clearing away the fix tools
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to rech the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to beging the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

====STEP 2====
resetting your restore points

1. Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2. In the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. To turn off System Protection for a hard disk, clear the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.

reboot

1. Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2. In the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

====AND FINALLY====
The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
