Ok guys, On Friday my computer went Crazy with all the warnings and advertisements to buy free spyware etc., so I knew something was wrong. I gave my PC to my cosuin who said he could fix it, when I brought it home last night it began running slower than a turtle and all the warning and websites started coming up again. So on my own last, I found this website and read "Help Worm.win32.skynet has taken over my PC," that "Rorschach112 helped with. I ran SmothfraudFix and DDS just like he recommended and it looked as if it was fixed because my computer was back to running normal speeds and all the warnings we gone etc.. After that did everything else Rorschach112 recommended which was update Adobe, delete and re-install Java, update my restore points and I downloaded SpywareBlaster, IE-SPYAD and Spyware Guard. I went to bed and everything was great. I woke up and had 37 IE's open and too many warnings to count. So I did everything all over again and I am running ok for the interum. PLEASE help, maybe there is something you guys could read in the logs...? I really need my PC because I work from home and without it, I can't work! Thanks a bunch, here are the readings from SmithfraudFix and DDS:

Hello

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

click on Start, click on Run
copy and paste the following in bold in the open window and then click OK
"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config
This will open up DSS configuration
click on Check All
click Scan
DSS will now run again when finished
Please post back both logs that open in notepad

Rorschach112,

I cannot post the response from SmithFraudFix, it is telling me that it is too long to post. When I pull it up in C:\rapport.tx is says there are 16,820 lines..... Please let me know what you would like me to do about that...

In the meantime here are the results from MAIN.TXT:

Hello

1. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarerefer...=...6Ojg5&lid=2
O21 - SSODL: bdmnopx - {0B91FA69-917A-46DB-B4BE-F42792FDC8B4} - C:\WINDOWS\bdmnopx.dll (file missing)
O21 - SSODL: admggxp - {766A0782-E2BF-4A69-BE85-1C558BCC6CA9} - C:\WINDOWS\admggxp.dll (file missing)

2. Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

WOW, you're darn good my friend!!! My computer seems to be running back to normal.. Here are the logs you requested, please let me know anything you would recommend to avoid this in the future and what software you feel I should purchase... I also heard that it's bad to run more than one program? So if I purchased a software package should I remove all the things I have downloaded to fix this problem or just save everything in a "Anit-Virus" folder on my desktop?

Just make sure you don't have more than one anti-virus or firewall and you will be ok

Few things to do

  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to rech the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to beging the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Now we need to create a new System Restore point.

Click Start Menu > Run > type (or copy and paste)

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.

To close Disk Cleanup and remove the Temporary Internet Files detected in the initial scan click OK then choose Yes on the confirmation window.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:
SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
Here

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Thank you greatly for your help, I plan on switching over to Mozilla and only using IE when I need to for certain work related websites... So, its not going to be a problem to keep all the programs I downloaded while correcting this problem and purchasing a Anit-Virus and Firewall software in addition? In regards to a specific Anti-Virus and Firewall software, what would you recommend as the best security and support if needed.... I want to do everything I can to make sure this doesn't happen again... I hope you uderstand what my question is..

Thanks again for the help, you've saved me....

You can remove all the tools that we used, I would recommend keeping only MalwareBytes Anti Malware

You seem to have Trend Micro Anti-virus on your PC already. You will need to remove this before installing a new anti-virus

Same goes for a firewall, make sure you disable Windows Firewall first

Here are some good and free recommendations

* Some good free firewalls are ZoneAlarm, Comodo, or
Outpost
Make sure you only use one firewall though. A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

* Please download and install one of the following programs :
AVG makes an excellent free antivirus client, as do AntiVir or avast!.

No need to pay for security programs, the above ones are excellent. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I would like to once again so thank you for all your help, my computer is running great. I took your advice and have already downloaded and installed ZoneAlarm and AVG and I am running all my internet things on Mozilla. I just ran the AVG scan of 110,000 files and there were ZERO infected files found :)

I am truly grateful to you! Although I hope to chat with you in the future, I REALLY hope I won't have to :)
