I recently moved from dial up to satellite connection. Really didn't see much change even though I went with the fast connection offered. Figured the problem was my computer and proceeded to clean it up today. I have run three spyware programs (Stopzilla, AVG and Superantispyware), also ran Panda which gave me additional spyware and adware, but did not clean. Further I ran Advanced Registry Optimizer. Over 1,000 total infections, errors, etc cleaned and/or fixed. While it seems that the computer is faster at this time, I am not sure it is actually clean and running at optimum speed. Therefore, here is a hijackthis file after everything above.

Hi mroycroft

welcome to geekstogo :)

sorry to keep you waiting. lets do a deeper scan of your machine for me to analyse.

(if your problem has already been resolved, could you just let me know so that i an move onto other logs to help others, thanks)

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

you may need to post the logs over 2 replies to ensure all the information is posted.

I can't get the DSS to run. When it downloads, it shows on the desktop as an application, but will not run. I've tried to download it several times, but without success.

appears you did a pretty good job of cleaning your machine.

in this post we will clean away some minor malware and do a couple of scans to flush out any further infections lurking on your machine.

====STEP 1====
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer and Save it to your desktop.

Do NOT run it yet

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O3 - Toolbar: @msdxmLC.dll,[email protected],&Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINNT\system32\msdxm.ocx

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINNT\system32\msdxm.ocx
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List Of Files/Patterns To Search For and Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

====STEP 2====
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

Because malewarebytes wanted to reboot, I went ahead and sent the two logs I was done before rebooting.

ok, thanks

your logs are looking pretty clean, the kaspersky scan only came up with some false positives - but i want to take a deeper scan to make sure.

we can do that in one of 2 ways:

firstly, lets try the DSS again:
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

if that still does not work, then try:
Download WinPFind35u.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind35u on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the WinPFind35u folder and double-click on WinPFind35u.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - BotCheck
    • Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
    • File - Purity Scan
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

so, in your next reply could i see:
1. either the 2 DSS logs or the attached WinPFind35u file
2. could i also have some idea of how your machine is running now

DSS still wont run. attached is the WinPFind35U Scan. Everyone in the house is complaining that it is slower than it was on dial up. I don't know. Sometimes it seems quick then others it is as slow or slower than it was on dial up. I have a steady satellite signal and I don't think that is the problem. What all should I be running? E-trust is running as my virus program, but Stopzilla and AVG are both running as well. I closed both the anti-malware programs and it seemed to speed up some. Could you disable Stopzilla, the AVG antispyware should suffice.

====STEP 3====
could you run and post another WinPFind35U Scan and i will take a closer look at it tomorrow night.

out of interest, could you temporarily disable all your protection programs and then try and run DSS - it is a long shot.
