I installed Win XP Service Pack 3 today and then was not able to connect to the internet. I got a message that I was not able to reset my IP Address. I reconfigured my wireless router (Linksys G) but that didnj't help. Tried rebooting and several other things and no luck. I finally did a "System Restore" to yesterday and now all's fine. Also, since I restored, I can't download & install updated Adobe Flashplayer". This may not be a related issue.

This pre-release software is provided for testing purposes only. Microsoft does not recommend installing this software on primary or mission critical systems. Microsoft recommends that you have a backup of your data prior to installing any pre-release software.

But well done you for rolling it back via System Restore. Well done that man.

As to Flash, a trip to Macromedia.com and install from there should update the plug-ins on its own.

I've not installed SP3 yet,too raw for me, but wouldn't it have been better to uninstall if from Add or Remove Programs? I'm sure a System Restore rollback did not get all the files SP3 updated.

When I was playing with SP2 before it was released, I would do the following:

• Install SP2
• Test, decide it was not ready
• Uninstall from Add/Remove Programs
• System Restore to before the install

Seems like this might be a good practice for SP3.

IMHO...stay away from anything beta..unless you don't mind spending a few hours tinkering with your system to get it working right again...

Point taken ion "Beta". A few months ago when I saw the Beta release, I stayed away. When I saw yesterday that MS had released it, I failed to read the full text.
As for Adobe FlashPlayer, I've been to their website several times and tried their testing site and nothing works. When I click the "Install" button, the screen blinks and goes back to the install screen. The only thing I haven't tried is uninstalling Adobe Flashplayer Active X and reinstalling. Thanks...Dave

I uninstalled...rebooted...Still can't reinstall Adobe Flash Player. I have Macromedia Flashplayer 8.0 installed, but I assume that's a different program. When I try to play a video at the CNN web site, I get the message that I need Adobe Flashplayer 8.0 or higher. I ntry to install and it reverts back to the install window. Occasionally that window will pop up, but I still can't install. It's like it's downloaded, but won't install. I'm not so sure it might not be a registry issue now. If so, I'm really stuck. Give the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility a try, see if it finds any remnants of Adobe Flash Player still on your computer.

Have you tried installing anything else recently? I'm wondering if this is s larger problem than just Adobe Flash?

I ran the installer cleanup utility and no remnants left. I recently uninstalled/reinstalled MS Office Pro 2003 because I was having upgrade problems with it. It still won't let me install the update for MS Onenote 2003. Other than that, I don't believe I've installed anything else. Thanks...Dave

As a test, try downloading and installing IrfanView. See if that works. As a bonus, it's a great small Image editing program.

I have Irfanview...no help. Is it possible it's a registry problem? If so, should I buy a registry repair program? I tried reinstalling IE 7.0 on top of IE7.0, but that didn't help either. Thanks...Dave

I'm also getting the attached error message on occasion when trying to view video.

What Anti-virus and Firewall are you using?

Also, please try installing IrfanView again. Doesn't matter if you have it or not, I just want to se if you can successfully install anything. If not that, then try another program, perhaps ShellExView.

I'm running Zone Alarm Pro firewall (Windows firewall turned off/also Linksys wireless router) and AVG 7.5 Antivirus. I was able to reinstall Irfanview.
