Please help me. I'm trying to install .net framework 2.0 and I getan error box message that stops me and says "make sure you have authorization"

what the heck does that mean and what do I do to get this done. I have a couple f programs that won't work without me getting the framework upgraded.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I have an HP Pavilion zd8000 notebook

are you using a admin account..
To successfully install the update, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Note each version of the .NET Framework that is already installed on the computer, and then uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework.
4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
5. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state for all the versions of the .NET Framework. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: here

Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Cleanup.
In the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, remove all Windows Installer applications for the .NET Framework.
Restart the computer.
then go to windows updates to get any updates the updater says you need

When do you get the error?

Did you complete all the steps happyrck posted? If not, where in them are you having a problem.

Okay, try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, see if that will remove it.

Are all .NET installations uninstalled?

What is the EXACT error message you are getting when you try to install it?

here's the first one.

internal error 2908 and then a gazillion numbers and letters.
Then the second one says something like error 1985 I believe...
an error occured during installation of VsaVb 7.0. and then culture = "neutral" and then something about version and some numbers. I know this isn't exact...but I tried to take a picture of the error but couldn't get it.

I'm really out of my element here.

Symptom: When attempting to manually install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 your receive an error: Internal Error 2908

Cause: .Net has already been installed once and some of the components are still on the system.

Solution: Remove the Mscoree.dll from the windows\system32 directory. Then restart you computer and install .NET again.

Found the above by doing a Google search for: internal error 2908
