Hi guys:
when I start my computer--found new hardware appears, and lists the 2 Cd players/recorders attached to the computer. However, it has problem installing the software that it automtically finds in the wizard.
Any help appreciated. both Cd's are recognized when the computer starts, this problem occurs when it starts windows XP.

Hello, and welcome to Geeks To Go.
The Wizard is trying to install the best possible driver.
It could be that the CD drive(s) only have drivers written for Vista, so they do not work with XP.
Please post the make and model number of;
  • Your computer.
  • Each one of the drives that are not working properly.
Are you getting an error in Device Manager that says the drivers could not be loaded?
To open Device Manager;
  • Click on the start button
  • Select control panel.
  • Open system.
  • Select hardware.
  • Select Device Manager.
  • Right click the CD drive and select properties.

The drives that are not working properly are:
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B and SAMSUNG DVD ROM SD-616T
I have searched for new drivers but haven't been able to find them.
When Windows goes to install the driver I get a Error code 39--missing or corrupted driver. I can't get any drivers from the internet, and I have misplaced my XP disk.
My system is Pentium 4 1.6 GHZ 512 MB RAM running XP Professional service pak 2 2002

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Please go here for the Samsung.
I have not found a driver for the LG.
LG states that no driver is needed. I will continue to look.
Please try the Samsung driver for now.

The link led me to a site that downloaded XPC Driver--a place to buy software to automatically update drivers. I did a scan and it showed that the installed driver is the best--Microsoft 7-1-2001 5.1.2535.0--but this is the driver that gives me error code 39. Perhaps someone can give me that driver to try and use it to see if that solves my problem--as the driver I have may be corrupt.

Thank you
