So my Macafee found a trojan and removed it. (or so it says) but I get the winupdate.exe error at startup and it wont let me do a system restore and other oddities. So my guess is I still have something going on.

I'm running Windows XP on a Macbook. Don't hate me for defacing my Mac, XP just runs so much better on a Mac and my programs are all Windows programs currently. lol. So you will see some apple oddities in there even though this is run on my XP side of the computer.

Any help is REALLY appreciated!

I recognized that the F3 one is not supposed to be there, so I fixed that one. I've gone through the rest but the 04 and the 021 ones are the ones I'm not sure about. Especially the 2 that are 021 because it says no file?

Hi Kristine let me see if I can help

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

F3 - REG:win.ini: run="C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdate.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [7007ef85] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xnylslav.dll",b
O21 - SSODL: WinCheck - {ba0e4f32-1dc4-4e3f-9db0-0e984b15bea9} - (no file)
O21 - SSODL: zip - {76332e19-3b34-4a4c-ae93-8ce75ce13e83} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

THEN

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdate.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\xnylslav.dll
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

FINALLY FOR NOW

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hi again Kristine, hmm I do not like easy ones :) (ok I lie)

One to remove and a registry sweep to clear and you may be done

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\Program Files\tmp3586953.exe
    C:\DOCUMENT AND SETTINGS\kristine\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\winF9.exe

THEN

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Logs required : Malwarebytes and OTmoveit plus how is your computer now ?
