We have an issue with our desktop computer. It has been showing vertical lines and weird dots across the screen. It does not appear to be the monitor as we have swapped to a different monitor, and the problem is the same. We are thinking video card or maybe RAM. Does anyone know what this could be? We don't want to go buying things if they aren't going to fix the problem.

This is an Alienware desktop that was purchased 7 years ago. Windows XP, has two 256 meg sticks of RDRAM, the motherboard is an Intel D850 EMV2. The video card is the ATI Sapphire Radeon 9700 Pro. If there are any other specs that would be helpful, please let me know!

Thats not a ram issue most likely a bad video card.

Start the computer and enter setup/bios, are the weird lines still there? If yes bad video card, if no restart in safe mode if the lines still are not there it maybe a driver issue. Remove the drivers and install the latest
