IE7 hangs and never completes. Was able to install Firefox as alternative. Here's the Hijack This log file. Any help would be appreciated as I have not used this tool before. Thank you.

You are currently using HijackThis from a temporary directory, this can cause problems.
HijackThis creates backups, these are needed in case of any recovery issues.
Please create a directory on your C:\ drive called C:\HJT, move HijackThis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder

Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

Move HijackThis into the newly created directory.


Re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes of all the entries listed below.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users

• Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
• An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
• If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
• Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.

• If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
• To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
  • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.

• Click Close to exit the program.

Thanks for your reply and help. I do think it was malware related because some items were removed early in the process while I was following the instructions on what to do before posting. Just to bring closure to this item. I un-installed and installed IE7 again...still did the same thing. Then I found a topic which identified the way to reset the internet options and turn off addons via command line. Turning off addons didn't do anything but resetting the internet options to the default brought IE7 back to life. Thanks again, this is now resolved.
