Hi all,
I am no stranger to PCs - have built a few in my time. I built this one. I have an AMD 1.2G processor and Win 2K Pro, SP4. Suddenly I received the NTDETECT Failed message on bootup. I went into Setup, changed the boot sequence to CD first. I then inserted my Win 2K Install CD and restarted. It said Booting from CD, and the CD started spinning. Then it went back to the NTDETECT Failed message. It will not bootup from my original install CD OR the backup I made.
I even tried later to change the entire boot sequence to CD and it did the same thing, It will not boot from the CD.
An hour before it was working fine.
Ideas/thoughts???
:)

Hello garin and welcome to Geeks to Go!

This can be caused by a missing or corrupt Ntdetect.com. See if the following instructions help resolve the issue:

Hello and thanks!
My problem is that every site tells me to boot from my win2K CD, but I have not been successful with either the original or the copy. It spins but does nothing else. Very strange...

Try booting to the command line and running the following command:
chkdsk /f /r
