My computer is intermittently very slow, especially when running IE. Some links do not work.
Nortons came up with adware.look2me with the corrupt file being req.dat but could not delete it. I removed the file with killbox but this had no effect. I followed your guidelines and CWShredder removed look2me but this also had no obvious effect.
Can you please help?
Here is my Hijack This log.

Welcome to GTG.

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks for helping.
Mangaed to do as requested but had some trouble. l2mfix folder would not initially open (CPU usage up to 100%). Neither would 'My Computer' or windows Explorer. After a reboot I manged to open it but it took about 2 minutes. Anyway, here is the log.

L2MFIX find log 1.03

That's not the whole log. Since it's giving you problems, see if you can run these:

Before doing anything, MAKE SURE that you can keep your computer on (at least until we get it fixed). This infection requires us to detect and remove it without rebooting or restarting your computer (unless the instructions say so). If you can't keep your computer on today, then I suggest that you don't get the logs yet until you are ready. With that said (when ready):

Please download the following programs required for the removal process:

Kill2Me http://www.greyknigh...spy/Kill2Me.exe
PV http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/pv.zip
VX2Finder http://www.downloads...g/VX2Finder.exe
Hoster http://www.greyknigh.../spy/Hoster.exe
CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ or http://www.greyknigh...spy/Cleanup.exe
KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe
notify.bat - right click on this link http://www.greyknigh.../spy/notify.bat and choose Save As...Save it.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Download/run the following uninstallers:

Look2Me Uninstaller http://www.look2me.c...bin/UnInstaller
IGN Keyword Uninstaller http://www.greyknigh...LNUninstall.zip
ClearSearch Uninstaller http://www.greyknigh...chUninstall.zip

You may restart if any of the uninstallers above asks you to restart. So do that before posting the logs below.

2. Run Kill2Me.

3. Unzip the pv.zip files contents to your Desktop (NOTE: It MUST be on your Desktop!).
a) Open that folder on your Desktop and double click on the runme.bat file.
b) Type in 3 and hit your Enter key. Save the log file.
c) Type in 5 and hit your Enter key. Save the log file.
d) Remember to copy and paste both of these log files in the forum AFTER you are finished with the rest of the steps below.

4. Run notify.bat and it should open up a notify.txt Notepad file. Copy and paste this in the forum later.

5. Run VX2Finder(126) and click on the Find VX2.BetterInternet button. Click Make Log and post this in the forum later.

We also need a list of files in the following folders:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ - for these files, if they just have numbers as the filename, right click on them and go to Properties to see what they are. Post the description for each of those here.
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ - there might be a download folder here. We are looking for any randomly named files. Post anything that looks suspicious.

Post all of the logs in your next post. We need them all to get a fix for this infection.

See if you can delete the file after fixing the entries in HijackThis:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C044AAD-7955-4cbd-8175-501A165C4E5D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dat (file missing)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vgaurl - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dat

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Followed your steps.
Unable to delete vgaurl.dll. Message: 'Cannot delete vgaurl. It is being used by another person or program.'
I had previously deleted req.dat using killbox (prior to coming to this forum).
Here is my log.

See if KillBox will delete it.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vgaurl - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

They're back... Let's see if these logs will show us anything:

Right click on http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.vbs and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Download FindQoologic-Narrator.zip at http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981 and save it to your Desktop. Create a new folder on your desktop (right click and select New->Folder) and call it FindQoologic. Now unzip the file contents of that zip file into that folder. Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it. Wait until a text file opens and post that in your next reply.

Download DllCompare http://www.greyknigh.../DllCompare.exe and run it. Click on the 'Locate.com' button. Wait a few seconds and then click on the 'Compare' button. Let it run, then click on 'Make a log of what was found'. Post that log here. Note: If you are having problems using DllCompare (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running DllCompare.

Before I do all that is it worth trying to delete vgaurl again with killbox. I deleted the req.dat file by just selecting 'delete on reboot' and nothing else. Is it necessary to unregister the dll first?

Sorry, I forgot to say that Killbox gave this error message when I asked it to reboot.

"PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process"

If this doesn't change the plan, just say so and I will go ahead with the steps on your previous post.

Thanks

OK, try deleting that file again then. Just copy and paste the full path and filename that we listed here. Then hit that X button with a circle. Fix those two entries in HijackThis:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vgaurl - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\vgaurl.dll

Restart and see if they come back. If they do, post those other logs.

We should also see if this is a virus/trojan:

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID the bad files.

Once you copy that to a Notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.

I have done as requested. The files from Nortons are in the back-up folder not the quarantine folder. Let me know if I need to delete them if I have to do the scan again.
Here are all the logs.
Thanks.
