Since then task manager now works (a program called STOPzilla picked up the problem and fixed it) however I still can't turn the firewall on. Another thing is I get sent to random pages on the internet sometimes. I could live with the random pages on the internet thing but the lack of firewall is far far too much.
So far I've tried these programs, both in normal running windows and safe mode:
kaperspy
avg
avg-as
spybot search and destroy
ad-aware
STOPzilla
None of these can currently find anything other than normal cookies that accumulate, so I don't even know the name of the infection
