installing xp over linux problem

hello my system crashed and when i tried to reinstall xp it said the ipconfig file was corrupt so i installed linux but i cannot get on with linux,i now have another copy of xp but when i boot up it goes straight to linux,is there a f key like f8 which i can press so i can format and reinstall xp please?

You have to make sure that your CD drive is first priority boot device. This is done in the BIOS. Boot the computer and enter the BIOS by repeatedly tapping the DEL or F2 keys. Sometimes it's another key. If you do not succeed, press the PAUSE key as soon as you see the first boot screen. Read and follow the instructions about how to enter SETUP.
