Hello. looking for some help in regards to the problems i have had the last couple days with vista

2 days ago things were running fine. i shut it down for the night, and re-started it the next day. When i restarted it an 'open file - security warning' pop up asked my permission to 'run' or 'cancel' every program that needed to be opened at startup(lots), or any program for that matter.
On top of this , certain programs i run will not run anymore. ex. Itunes will open, but wont start playing. Vlc media will play but minus audio. etc. (firefox runs fine).

As of now ive tried restoring it to an earlier date, that didnt work.

ive tried fixing the numerous 'errors' with windows, they all come back with no solutions at this time

ive also ran scans with a few virus programs(avg, spybot, adaware), unsuccessful as well.

ive also googled the problems, seen some solutions but they dont seem to work.

Hopefully someone has some ideas to resolve this mess. Thanks in advance!

ps running vista home premium

Turn user account control and turn security elevation prompt to 0 this should stop all these annoying prompts coming up.
