I really need help and would appreciate greatly any advice as I have no idea what to do.

Here are the symptoms I have noticed, in the order that they began to occur:
- My home page is being hijacked by "www.your-searcher.com"
- When windows starts up, a message always pops up: "A required .DLL file, MSVBVM60.DLL was not found."
- When I try to shut down, another message pops up saying something like "Win Min" is not responding. "End Task" works after the second click (for some reason).
- Some tasks no longer work, such as opening word documents straight from windows explorer, and running certain executables from windows explorer

I have Ad Aware and Spybot. I recently tried to get HijackThis because many people on this site seem to use it, but the executable to install it won't run- the same message pops up again about the .DLL file.

Is this the right place to post my problems? I tried in another thread somewhere and got no response for over a week. Please help me!

Whoa- the .DLL problem was fixed, but then photoshop wouldn't run. I uninstalled it (photoshop). It won't reinstall- the install executable stops responding after a few seconds.
Also, when I tried to access this computer (no virus protection that I know of) from another one (with virus protection) through a wireless network, the other computer's virus software found a file almost instantly- "C:\m.exe"- which it said contained a trojan horse.
Whatever- none of this pertains directly to the spyware/hijacker problem (I think)... one thing at a time.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dllhelp] c:\windows\dllhlp.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
c:\windows\dllhlp.exe

Reboot your PC.

Next, please run a free online virus scan here:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log. <_<

For virus detection and prevention, we also recommend the very good (and free) AVG antivirus program:

Ok, I did all that.

Interestingly, I was in the process of getting AVG before I even looked at your post- my mother has it on her machine, and she recommended it to me, as well. I have it now, and it ran a scan, found 6 files, and fixed them, including one trojan. Housecall's product found 16 more files all in temporary internet files and deleted them. Moosoft's product found nothing, probably because I ran the other two first.

Thank you so much for coming back to this topic.
I fixed what you said, and your-searcher.com no longer hijacked my homepage. But, after that, I decided to look through my favorites to see if anything got placed there by the bug (some people have said that this happened to them). I did find four such links, and deleted them. In the process, though, I accidentally left clicked on one. This brought back yoursearcher.com. I rescanned with hijackthis, and found that some of the items I had fixed were back on the list. I fixed them again, and now your-searcher.com is gone once again. The problem appears to be solved, even when I reboot, etc.
No other problems seem to be occurring. The others all disappeared over the course of the actions you guys had me take. I am sorry if I forgot to mention exactly when each was gone. No longer is there a .DLL problem, no longer does WIN MIN not respond, no longer does installwizard fail, no longer does photoshop fail, and no longer does your-searcher.com hijack my homepage.
Thank you a million times for solving these issues with my computer. I am very grateful and very relieved. The help provided was easy to follow and effective.

A little more cleaning to do:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cvchost] c:\windows\cvchost.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
c:\windows\cvchost.exe careful not to remove svchost.exe which is legitimate.

That should do it, but please Reboot your PC, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log. <_<

Did everything except the last: cvchost.exe is not on my computer. I know that recently I let AVG fix more than one trojan on my system. I don't know what chchost.exe is, but that could have been it?

Thanks again, and here's the log:

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_< (You'll probably want to reset your homepage).

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D
