Hi, I seem to have a problem, I think it has occured after my daughter tried to download something via bit torrent. The thing is that my Norton wont work correctly, spybot search and destroy wont work properly and ad-aware wont work properly. I have done a system restore back to 2 days ago when I know all was well to try to sort it but this has not helped. Attached is a copy of the hijackthis logfile, I have used an online auto analysis of this and it shows no problems but I obviouslyhave something wrong.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Hello rob h66

Are you getting any error messages when trying to run those programs?

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Thanks for the prompt reply, when you have a problem it is always nice to know that there is help available.
At the bottom of this reply are the results of the DSS scan. Meanwhile since last night I have been on the Norton site to try to find a solution to the reason that I could not turn my auto protect on, thier online fix for this seems to have worked. I emptied my recycle bin and deleted all of my browser history and temporary files. Spybot S&D is still having a problem with updating as there seems to be no way to access its update folder amd I cant gain permissions for it.
I deleted the contents of the folder where the dodgy file was downloaded to, but it would not allow me to delete the folder, the message said that the folder was in use by a program, even though I could find none running. After re-booting several times I managed to run Ad-aware and it updated and ran ok. No problems found. Windows defender found nothing. A full Norton scan found nothing .
I have asked my daughter about the download now. It was a keygen for photoshop cs3 while it downloaded there was a folder created for it as always with torrents but when it had finished the folder dissapeared and problems with pc started, she also mentioned that a popup from spybot s&d appeared saying something to do with allowing a registry change which she says she said no to. Some sites on the web say that there are some cs3 keygens that contain one or more trojans. Hope some of this helps.

I really don't see any malware present.
Have you tried to uninstall\reinstall Spybot?
Try that see if it works.
Also you shaould be able to delete that folder you mentioned after a reboot.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatley.

Uninstalled spybot, that got rid of the folder that I couldn't access, downloaded the latest version, checked for updates and now it works ok. Didn't find anything on the scan.
Haven't had time to do the MBAM thing yet as I have been tied up with sorting out my daughters pc which has ceased to output to the monitor suddenly, another one of the nice helpful people on here is trying to help me with that one. Will post back with the MBAM results in the next dayt or so.

I ran MBAM. there seems little point in adding the logfile here as all it says is that there ws nothing found. It seems that whatever was wrong with my pc is no longer a problem.
Thanks for your time, it is appreciated.

Ok you can uninstall Mbam and delete the C:\Deckard folder and the deckard icon on your desktop.

After that your log is clean.

To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein ->Here
