Gateway GT5263E w/ Intel Cortez D945GCZ MB: Replaced orginal SATA 250GB Hitachi with WD 500GB SATA. Works great until I connect the Hitachi as second SATA drive, then system gets to Windows logo and freezes. Have tried it with 2nd drive formatted and unformatted. BIOS sees both drives and they are not RAID enabled. Any suggestions? Thanks.

They are both seen by the BIOS, but are they enabled? Most BIOSes have an option to set the SATA channel to [On] or [Off]. Make sure they're both on. Try putting it into the third or fourth SATA port (if available) and see if it detects and boots.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked again in the BIOS and verified they are configured correctly and also tried several configurations plus I also moved the 2nd drive to ports 3 and 4 with the same result. I have also updated and reset the BIOS. At the Logo screen, system freezes. By the way, Gateway tech has given up on this. Unless someone can help here, I will eventually try Intel for help. Yuk.

I formatted 2nd drive and now it is being seen and I'm able to access. Don't really know what fixed it but I'll take the solution. Thanks for the assistance. This one can be CLOSED.
