Unable to Run HiJackThis

I'm seriously close to pitching my computer in the dumpster, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I somehow aquired the Winreanimator virus. I've tried 4-5 automated removal programs, tried VundoFix, tried VirtumundoBeGone. That blasted little red circle with the white "X" is still on my toolbar creating the "Computer is infected..."
In chat, I was told to run HiJackThis and post the log here. I downloaded and installed HiJackThis, but it will not run. I've tried re-installing it many times. Nothing happens when I doubleclick the icon on the desktop. I was advised to post my problems here. I'm not extremely computer literate, so any and all help would be great. Thanks. Tom
