hello,

I have a windows XP professional sp1 comp, just recently i found out i have a virus from the program mIRC, i would like to reformat because i cannot locate this file (tried many scans from this and other sites) none of which can locate this file. The other problem i have is that this computer is very old and i have no idea where the CD for this comp with the windows on it has gone. I do have a windows Media Edition cd for my other PC. I'm not sure if this would work, or there is another way to reformat without the cd. Please help me with a response. Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

I'm curious to know what you consider "very old" to be? Maybe more to the point, what are the specs of the machine? It wouldn't be legal to use the Media Edition on more than one machine, besides which if you use the same product key for more than one machine you may find that they don't pass the WGA test and you won't be able to get updates for them. There are other alternatives, such as the version of Linux in my signature, or if you have to have Windows maybe you can remember where the CD went.

I may have exaggerated a little lol, this PC is around 2-3 years old, my specs are as followed:

Windows XP Professional
2.67 gigahertz Intel Pentium D
512 MB ram
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
C-Media AC97 Audio Device
Board: 775i65G 1.00
127 GB harddrive

If you need any more information please ask.
