Right place for this?? If not, sorry and let me know where.

Initial problem: when I 'log in' to GTG it's successful (I get the window saying I'm successfully logged on) but at the same time an 'error' msg is displayed saying that I must register. If I ignore it and just click on 'Forums' at the top of the screen, the list of categories/forums is shown and I can post to forums. This leads into my 2nd problem.

2nd problem: attempted to start a new topic (for my initial problem) in any of the forums in the 'Community' category and was rejected. Looked at my profile but didn't see anything to help. What have I done wrong / what to do?

Thanks

Since this appears to only be a problem affecting you, I would suspect that its something to do with your computer. It is always possible that there is something going on from our end, but since its only happening to you, its unlikely.

You were able to post here, are you able to post in the Windows XP forum? I believe this may be an internet cache issue or possibly a browser error.

I can post in all forums (except the Community - described in the 2nd problem).

By the way, this time when I logged on, everything was normal (ie no error) - I had read your update and when I went to reply, I was told to log on - when I did, there wasn't a problem but when I access GTG and logon initially get the problem. (Is it maybe the initial URL I'm using? ...

The garbled number/letter combination in the middle is a session based thing. That should change every time you visit. You need to get here using http://www.geekstogo.com/forum and then click on Login, or have the computer save your login and keep you logged in.

Attempted to start a new topic (for another problem) in any of the forums in the 'Community' category and was rejected. Get: "Sorry, you do not have permission to start a topic in this forum"

Looked at my profile but didn't see anything to help. What have I done wrong / what to do?

Does this mean that you tried again and it still didn't work? Because by your last post I thought things had cleared up.

The error (that wasn't an error) at logon is fixed - URL ScHwErV gave fixed one problem- Thank you.

This is a separate issue. (Had hoped using correct URL might fix 2nd issue, but no joy.)

Sorry, I meant to start another topic with my last update but I messed up - for the 1st time this year .. HAH. Let me know if you want it separated.

Tried 'How-To Guides and Tutorials' and 'Site Orientation and FAQ' - got "not permitted error" for both.

You can only reply to threads in those forums. You cannot start threads there.

See this thread for information.
