I have been getting a lot of Windows Explorer errors lately, Ill try and get the exact message soon. It happens most of the time when Im going through folders and/or renaming files. When the error happens I click ok then all my taskbar and icons disappear for several seconds and come back, then my computer goes back to normal. I had this happen about 4-5 times in a minute earlier. My only guess is my hard drive is going out, but I am not sure.

My Event viewer has this as a information message and says - "The Shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

Hi Trippster,

Make sure that the data execution setting is on "Windows programs and services only". Right click "my computer" and select properties, go to the advanced tab, click the settings button in the performance section, go to the data execution prevention tab

otherwise I would suggest a basic general cleaning of your system.

Delete temp files (try using ccleaner), defrag and run a diskcheck (open "my computer" > right click the drive and select "properties">go to the tools tab).
