My Event viewer has this as a information message and says - "The Shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

Hi Trippster,
Make sure that the data execution setting is on "Windows programs and services only". Right click "my computer" and select properties, go to the advanced tab, click the settings button in the performance section, go to the data execution prevention tab
otherwise I would suggest a basic general cleaning of your system.
Delete temp files (try using ccleaner), defrag and run a diskcheck (open "my computer" > right click the drive and select "properties">go to the tools tab).
