Whenever I boot from the live cd it goes to a command line instead of the live desktop. I don't know how to get it to install with the command line so how do I get it to go to the live desktop?

hi, ubuntu is not my distro but when a live install is refused it usually means that the video driver hasn't taken, two ideas then, first to take this problem to the ubuntu forum link below or try another distro of a different linux, chances are it will have the right drivers, for example suse or fedora linux, thanks

http://ubuntuforums.org/

btw what type of computer is it, make, etc.,

I built my computer, the specs are
mobo:gigabyte p35-ds3l
cpu:p4 [email protected]
graphics:geforce 8800gs
memory:corsair 2gb ddr 800 dual channel

also I tried it on my older rig, but my problems with that one are a bit different.

Did you get the alternate install disk by any chance? You want the live CD. It may do that because it doesn't recognize your video card.

In Ubuntu there is an option to run the OS in "safe graphics mode". It is an option from the live CD. I would give it a shot.

Thanks for the help everyone, I got it to install on the old build (which was what I wanted to do originally) so I'm not going to worry about installing it on my new pc.
