Hello Rich, Just wanted to let you know that Recuva did find that missing file. The problem was that I then had to know where to put it. I knew it was a connection file but there were several choices and I must have put it in the wrong spot because I continued to get the pop-up. I ended up haveing to do a full System Recovery - no fun!! Anyway, wanted to let you know what happened and thank you for taking the time to help me out.

compaq connections exe is located in "C"/Program Files/Compaq Connectioms/557749( a numbers files, yours may be different)/Program. There will be other folders that have names starting with en- and es- but that "Porgram" folder is where compaq connections is on both my compaq computers.
