Hi all,

I have got a serious infection on my PC ACER ASPIRE5720G and my Norton antivirus (2007) cannot stop it.
When I am connected to internet the current page is redirected automatically to a site "ad.aware" and then to other pages like "Orange", "Meetic", "LaRedoute" and other spam like that. In the same time other IE windows are automatically opened (this happens once every 5 minutes, more or less).
I have launched all the programs you have suggested (except Panda that I am not able to run) and the only spyware that detected something is "SuperANTISpyware" (5 tracking cookies have been identified and deleted).
I have still the infection. Can you help me, please?
You find below the log of HijackThis:
Thanks
Manuel

Hi manuelrosati

welcome to geekstogo :)

sorry to keep you waiting. lets do a deeper scan of your machine for me to analyse.

As a Vista user I will require that all the programmes I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programmes may fail to do their job properly

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

you may need to post the logs over 2 replies to ensure all the information is posted.

Hi Andrewuk,

thanks for your reply.
It is impossible to close all internet Explorer windows, due to the virus that is infecting my PC.
Anyway there was only 1 internet explorer window opened during the execution of DSS.

I beleive i can see a LOP infection on your machine.

firstly, do you recognise this website? http://home.sweetim.com

====STEP 1====
this may not work, but it is worth a try before we go in the manual route:

As a Vista user I will require that all the programmes I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programmes may fail to do their job properly

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from the link below...
Link 1
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it[list]
  • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
    <<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log
--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program. --

Thanks.

The website http://home.sweetim.com has been used by my girlfrindend to download "free emoticon for MSN" :) (this is her laptop)
I have already uninstalled everything from this website but I guess it was too late...

I have run NoLop but I didn't find any infection.

ok, lets see if we can clear this infection in this post with this tool.

As a Vista user I will require that all the programmes I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programmes may fail to do their job properly

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer and Save it to your desktop.

Do NOT run it yet

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://home.sweetim.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar avec bloqueur de fenêtres pop-up - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\ProgramData\Tool Software Software.72b88v
    C:\ProgramData\move loud bold.p4jopjx
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\Biasdelete
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\bait face type axi
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{26956731-b582-11dc-b813-8523475c9e21}
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{b7ac9def-bef3-11dc-985d-ad261b4dcb64}
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{c46e9b44-a82e-11dc-9725-999809496c4d}
    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

in your next reply could i see:
1. the OTMoveIT log
2. a new hijackthis log

hmm.....looks like some of the Registry Keys were not removed so we will go another route.

firstly, since we will be making manual changes to the Registry we will back it up first. Better safe than sorry.

As a Vista user I will require that all the programmes I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programmes may fail to do their job properly

====STEP 1====
Go to Start > Run
Type:regedit
Click OK.
  • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
  • Go up to "File > Export"
    • Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch. <= important!
      Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
      Under "Filename" put backup
  • Choose to save it to C:\ or somewhere else safe so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the desktop!)
  • Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

====STEP 2====
Next, lets remove the unwanted items.

Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.
Please copy the contents of the code box below into the notepad. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it.

Save it to your desktop has fixit.reg (filetype = any)

REGEDIT4

NOTICE: This file was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine.
Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating sysytem

Locate fixit.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Please reply back letting me know if it merged correctly.

(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

and can i also see another hijackthis log.

I have merged the register successfully (but I was REALLy scared to do it:).

...hence the reason why we backed up your registry first :)

in this post we will just clear off a hijackthis entry and do some scans to clear off final traces and see if there is anything else lurking on your machine.

the scans will likely take 3 hours, quite possibly much longer. so just let them run.

As a Vista user I will require that all the programmes I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programmes may fail to do their job properly

====STEP 1====
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [bait face type axis] "C:\ProgramData\move loud bold.p4jopjx"

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

====STEP 2====
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

====STEP 3====
we will now run SUPERantispyware which i see on your machine:

Double-click the SUPERantispyware icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

====STEP 4====
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

this program will not remove infections it finds, merely lists them in a log.

Click on Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

In your next reply could i see:
1. the malwarebytes log
2. the SUPERantispyware log
3. the kaspersky scan log

The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum. Hence, you may need to post the information over 2 or more posts.
