Hi,

My name is Kelli. Please excus emy complete lack of knowledge when it comes to computers.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and am using Windows XP. I've had it for about 4 yrs now and have yet to have problem until now.

Online I only browse a few websites(forums to be exact), well last night I was doing the same and all of a sudden a little Windows bubble came up and says

Warning:Your coputer is infected
Windows has detected spyware infection! Click here to download the latest Windows security software. <this pops up every couple minutes.

Okay...so wow.

Then I closed out of my browser and my background says WARNING! You're in danger. Your compu is infected with spyware, secure yourself right now and remove all spyware.

I cannot remove the background.

I have updated and ran Spyware Terminator. Then downloaded, updated, and ran Ad Aware, and then Spybot. None have made a difference.

Computer is acting more slow and every once in a while my internet broswer will randomly pop up to some random site.

Ugh, I dont know what to do.

This is because there will be times when you are unable to be online to read my instructions, and I will want you to do everything very carefully. Next, I would like to make sure that you can view hidden files and folders;

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading SELECT Show hidden files and folders.
• UNCHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
• UNCHECK the Hide extensions for known file types option.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.

Now you will need to download Hijackthis and post a log so that I can see exactly what is infecting your computer, so please follow the guidelines below:

• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there
• Scan your computer and save a logfile
• Post the log in your next reply.

I would also like you to create an Uninstall list for me:

• Reopen HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
• Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button.
• After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Pick a place to save it, then the list should open in notepad.
• Copy and paste that list here along with the HijackThis log.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please save that report to your desktop as Smitfraud.txt, and copy/paste the content into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.


Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please uninstall the following programs:

LimeWire 4.14.10
Viewpoint Media Player

• Go to Start then Settings, then Control Panel
• Choose Add or Remove Programs
• Remove all of the above

Note: Limewire is probably where you got infected from.

• Open Spybot Search & Destroy.

• Expand the "Tools" menu.
• Click "Resident".
• Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
• In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.

• Click the red Moveit! button.

The computer is acting fine! I was finally able to rid of that ugly background warning me about Spyware and Windows stopped the warning bubbles about an infected computer. And no more random internet pop up ads. This is awesome. Thanks for all your help so far!

1. Please open Notepad

• Click Start , then Run
• Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
