Don't want to dig up the dead, but given what you said, the above does not make sense. Should be two OS choices there.

I assume that add/remove software in control panel does not list WIndows XP upgrade. (just checking).


Look on your C; drive....what do you see as far as c:\windows, c:\win98, anything that begins that way.

Finally, serach for a folder called OPTIONS or search for files with *.cab

add/remove does not list an upgrade, but i didn't upgrade i just installed xp from scratch. on my c: drive it shows \windows and \windows2 (xp)
there are tons of files with .cab under windows
