My buddy bought an older computer running Win2000. His interest is burning CD's. We tried Nero 6, Ashampoo's free CD burning software and one other. All seem to just create an image of the CD being copied, but it will never write a disc, nor does it show any other drive then this:

IDE CD-Rom 48x/aku

He also hase this, and I think this too may just be a CD player:

Hitachi CDR-7930

Could someone please tell me if these are just players or do they have the ability to burn and if they do, why does the problem only copy an image?

Thanks so much.

CD-R = CD Reader. Has no CD writing capabilities whatsoever.
CD-RW = CD Writer and CD reader only. Will not talk to DVDs.
DVD-ROM = DVD Player and CD reader only. Has no writing capabilities whatsoever.
DVD-RW = CD reader, writer, DVD player and writer. Does everything but wash the dishes.
