I have a Compac HP Pavillion a220n. with MS Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2.

I just got hooked up with Qwest high speed internet service. I had to remove Norton as I was told it was incompatible with the McAffee security service provided with the high speed service.

I can't get email. I get a message telling me that a Hotmail could not make a connection made over the FTP connection as the firewall is blocking.

When I contacted Qwest they told me to contact Compac as the high speed connection was fine. Compac just disabled my firewall I discovered today and I still could not get my email.

I am very technically unsavvy...and wonder if anyone has encountered this or can tell me in layman's terms how to fix it.

Thanks.

Did you disable the Windows Firewall or the Norton Firewall?

(Compaq is not spelled compac, it is Compaq.)

I removed all of Norton's anti virus and firewall protection. I now have windows live care which says everything is "good" on my computer. However when I try to send an email (with my resume - job hunting) I get a message saying it cannot find Qwest...my high speed internet server.
