Hi there Tommie! I am analyzing your log now, and will post instructions for you shortly! You do have several infections present on your system, but if you follow all my advice, you will be cleaned up in no time!

Hi there, and welcome! My name is Kat, and I'll be helping you to get your computer fixed up and on the run again! You may want to print these instructions or save them to a NotePad file on your desktop to make it easier for you to follow each step in order!

1. Before we tackle the infections on your machine, I need you to do something very important. It is not a good idea to run HijackThis from a "temp" location. Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible

2. You have a virus named W32.Serflog.A that has caused your host file corruptions, and many of the other issues in your log. Let's tackle this next. Please go here to run the removal tool for this from Symantec. Prior to using this tool, please do the following:
# Disable System Restore:
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Reboot
# Update the virus definitions.
# Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as W32.Serflog.A.
# Delete the value that was added to the registry.

3. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

NewDotNet
Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

4. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if still present)

You're welcome!

this topic is being closed as it has been resolved. If you need help in the future, please feel free to start a new topic!

Congratulations! :tazz: Your log is clean! ;)
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
