I had some malware problems a few weeks back and was helped greatly by this site. I was told my logs were clean and from the instructions given by this site I downloaded and ran spybot search and destroy, adaware, and AVG antivirus. However those programs found all kinds of stuff, which I deleted. However now my computer is taking an eternity to start up and shut down. My available virtual memory is listed as 0% and the total virtual memory according to my notebook maximizer is listed in the negative. my physical memory is fine(I just upgraded from 1/2 gig to 1 1/2 gigs). I have two main questions, one being how to fix my virtual memory and two being is my hijack this log clean

Hi there your log looks clear. So the first question is have you disabled virtual memory (paging file)

Please read these two links and ensure that your virual memory is working

firtst of what is the paging file for virtual memory, my virt memory is set to automatic adjust. however I have also been told i could set it 1.5xRAM, either way my notebook maximizer lists available virtual memory at 0% and oddly a negative number. Here is a little more info, someone told me it i might need to do a scan during boot. Several times lately my computer screen goes blue and says it must shut down to prevent damage. when it restarts a post comes up saying something along the lines of recovered from an error. spy bot search and destroy keeps asking me to approve registry changes every time my computer starts up. programs take forever to open, but once they do they run fine. every time i open fire fox for the first time it says session cant open but the second time it always works fine. Windows task manager says system idle is using cpu but i hear that is normal. Also it takes forever to start up and shut down. I have a toshiba qosmio G15R updated to 2 gigs of Ram which i only am using about 20% of, also my C and D drive memory is almost untouched and all my updated virus and malware scans are coming up clean. onecare, spybot, malewaREBYTES. I have defragmented my drives, cleaned my registry and so on thank you for the articles I am reading those right after i post this, and sorry it took so long to get back to you

No problem - if you are still experiencing problems then

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

And I will look at your system

first I just want to say thanks for your time, help and expertise. Second those articles were very helpful in understanding virtual memory, although much of the language is still somewhat foreign to me. i should of mentioned this earlier but hadnt thought of it until i ran the deckard's scan( i have no clue if this will be of any meaning to you, if not ignore it). when my computer first begin having all of these issues I tried to restore it to a previously set restore point. After automatic computer restart, a message appeared saying no changes made, restore was not succesful. This message prompted after trying each of several restore points.

Hmm nothing leaps out there so lets look even deeper

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Check the radio button that says Rootkit search
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - BotCheck
    • Reg - ControlSets
    • File - Additional Folder Scans
    • File - Purity Scan
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

A few iffy bits there but nothing that appears related to your problem :)

Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

[CatchMe Rootkit Scan by GMER]

[Empty Temp Folders]

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new Hijackthis log.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.
