So I want to get a UPS for my comp and possibly TV but dont really know all that much about them.

Does anyone have any knowledge in the area and recommendations on what to buy and where?

I personally like APC, but there are other that are also good. The SmartUPS is nice because it puts out a sine wave instead of a stepped wave (which presents problems with surge suppressors), but it is more expensive. You can often find used ones on ebay, but typically the batteries are shot and those are expensive to replace, but cheaper than buying a similar new unit.

You can find the BackUPS (non-sine wave) models at Sam's Club for a good price.

You need to decide how much power you need and how long you want the power to stay on. A 1000VA will last quite some time, as long as you don't have anything which takes a lot of power. You can go with a larger or smaller unit, depending on what you want to pay.
