there seems to be a couple of small problems.

firstly, i'm not sure if this matters but in the system restore window it says there are no recent restore points.

second, i can't change my background back. When i browse for a picture to choose as my background all the pictures show up as blank but they are still there. I changed my computer to 16-bit and that resolved the problem of the missing pictures but this still did not allow me to change my background.

that means you successfully reset your restore points.

second, i can't change my background back.

ok, we will run combofix again.....

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

any luck?

good to hear :)

should i now turn off and on my system restore

we will go through the usual combofix removal routine.

Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.
If you have trouble with this, let me know and we will clear away the fix tools and reset your restore points another way
