Can anyone explain why my DVD_RW drive spins up for no reason every time I play a game, regardless if there is a disk in the drive or not. It does it no matter what game I play and it only does this when I play games. Below is my HIJACKTHIS log, if it helps.

Hi, Welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums

Most games theses days look for a disc in the drive. It is so because it stop Piracy as the game checks you own a disc and you just didn't install the game from your mate's disc. When you open up "My Computer" the computer checks to see if there is a disc in the drive & displays information if there is.

As for your hijackthis log, post it in the Malware Removeal Forum just to check it isn't spyware.

I could follow that if this problem had just started within the last couple weeks. Prior to this there was nothing like that happening. I opened a trouble case with the manufacturer to see if the problem I am experiencing is indicative of hardware problems vs malware, spyware, or virus. I have also posted my highjack log in the Malware, Spyware section.

Thanks for your input Listerofsmeg I do appreciate it.

Regards,

Thank You Again for you help.... i got this from NEC the manufacturer of my DVD_RW. (which i followed and it seems to be working like its supposed to)

I also ran a reg cleaning tool just to make sure there were not unneeded entries. My problem is resolved.......

Go to start and run type Regedit:

Run REGEDIT, open up the following folders:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Go to file and export
Save the file to a specific place on your system to safeguard you if there are any problems

While {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} is still highlighted
you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"

Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Highlight computer in the device manager go to action
scan for h/w changes, your DVD writer will come back.

Then reboot. Your drive should work.

Thank you,
NECAM Service and Support
