Hello buddygirrl234,

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.

I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. Let me know about that on your next reply.

# Step 1 #

Please download SDFix by AndyManchesta and save it to your desktop.
When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"
  • Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
  • (this is the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix).
  • DO NOT use it just yet.

# Step 2 #

Reboot your computer on into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

# Step 3 #

Open the SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts, the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt in your next replyalong with a new HijackThis log.
-- If this error message is displayed when running SDFix: "The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator. Press any key to continue..."
Please go to Start Menu > Run > and copy/paste the following line:
%systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\swreg IMPORT %systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\Enable_Command_Prompt.reg
Press Ok and then run SDFix again.

-- If the Command Prompt window flashes on then off again on XP or Win 2000, please go to Start Menu > Run > and copy/paste the following line:
%systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\FixPath.exe /Q
Reboot and then run SDFix again.

-- If SDFix still does not run, check the %comspec% variable. Right-click My Computer > click Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables and check that the ComSpec variable points to cmd.exe.
%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

# Step 4 #

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
Read first: "How to download and use ComboFix"
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.

Extra-Note: Please, DO NOT use ComboFix on your own. It is a very powerful tool designed to deal with sophisticated infections and if something goes wrong or you use it incorrectly, you could possibly lose the use of your computer. It is ONLY meant to be used under the direct supervision of a malware removal specialist.

# Step 5 #

In your next reply, please post:
  • The results from SDFix (step nº 3)
  • The results from ComboFix (step nº 4)
  • A new HijackThis log and let me know your decision about Viewpoint.

Regards

Hello buddygirrl234,

We are looking and checking into a possible error showing on ComboFix log. So, at this moment we cant go further, but please continue to review my answers on this thread because we still have work to do to clean your computer.

Your log(s) show that you are using so called peer-to-peer or file-sharing programmes (in your case Azureus and LimeWire).
These programmes allow to share files between users as the name(s) suggest. In today's world the cyber crime has come to an enormous dimension and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of the malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.

It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care. Some further readings on this subject, along the included links, are as follows: "File-Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer" and "Risks of File-Sharing Technology."

It is also important to note that sharing entertainment files and proprietary software infringes the copyright laws in many countries over the world and
you are putting yourself at risk of being indicted through organisations watching over the rights of the authors of such files (i.e. the RIAA for music files, or the MPAA for movie files in the USA) or the authors of the files themselves.

Naturally there are also legal ways to use these services, such as downloading Linux distributions or office suites such as "Open Office."

# Step 1 #

And I didnt uninstall Viewpoint, but what would be the best decision, and what exactly does viewpoint do?

Please read carefully what i has post before about Viewpoint. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This changed from what we know in 2006 read this article:
http://www.clickz.co...ml?page=3561546

I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
  • Do the same for each Viewpoint component.
# Step 2 #
:) Only do this step if you choose remove Viewpoint :)

Go to Start » Run » type: Notepad » OK.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text inside the code box below to Notepad. (Be sure to use Notepad, not Wordpad, otherwise it won't work).
@ECHO OFF
sc stop "Viewpoint Manager Service"
sc config "Viewpoint Manager Service" start= disabled
sc delete "Viewpoint Manager Service"
  • Click File at the top and then choose Save As.
  • Change Save As Type to All Files.
  • Name it fixsvc.bat and save it on your desktop.
  • Double click fixsvc.bat.
To prevent it from being recreated every time you run the AOL software:
  • Open AOL
  • Go to Help on the toolbar
  • Select About AOL
  • Hit Ctrl D and a secret panel can be accessed which will allow you to disable all desktop and IM features associated with Viewpoint.

# Step 3 #

In your next reply, please post:
  • A new HijackThis log
  • Please let me know how your computer its running now

So far I don't have the pop-ups and fake windows security things, but I don't know if they will appear later, so I'll give it a bit of time.

Ok, got a new pop-up. It looks like a wizard thing. It's titled "System Integrity Scan Wizard," And I'm sure it's fake. It says:

"Warning: Your computer may have critical errors in Windows registry and file system!

The registry and file system errors lead to computer freezes, system crashes and slowdowns, corruption of files and documents.

Immediate system integrity scan and repair is strongly recommended.

To scan your computer for errors please click the 'Next' button below."

I dunno what to do with this or what is causing it. Please help! =3

Hello

# Step 1 #

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
Posted Image
  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

# Step 2 #

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

The reason for uninstall and download again the ComboFix, its because its a new version of the tool with a problem fixed.

# Step 3 #

Very Important!

# Step 4 #

Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/spyware-infection-t192195.html&gopid=1196089#entry1196089

IMPORTANT: The above script was written specifically for this infection on this person's computer. It is NOT to be used on another computer, as it may cause damage that could result in a format!
  • Save the above as CFScript.txt
  • Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
  • Posted Image
  • This will start ComboFix again. Upon reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.
  • When ComboFix finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed, and read it carefully.
  • With the above script, ComboFix will capture a file to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK.
  • A browser will open. Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file.

# Step 5 #

In your next reply, please post:
  • The results from ComboFix (step nº 4)
  • A new HijackThis log
