I installed the orange box in my computer and an error about needing directx 8.0 pop up when I tried to play the games other than when I play Half-Life 2 which works FINE. Now a lot of people will be saying "Install the [bleep] newest version of directx u dumbo/brainlesss/watever insults I don't want to hear :) ". I in fact has directx 9.0c (newest for windows xp) and updating it several times still dosen't work. And the orange box is ORIGINAL, not pirated, torrented, hacked, crack used on and watever else. Please help me fix this problem!!!

let me understand, is this the retail version or the steam version?

have you updated your video drivers recently?

So, is it installed and giving the error when you go to launch the game or is the error occurring during the install?

What are your system specs? Have you run dxdiag to see what it says?

DirectX 9.0c and only half-life 2 works. The rest are screwed. And its during the game launch. And what do you mean retail version? I bought the orange box that in a cool box from somewhere in town.

that means retail.

First, you need to be sure you logging into steam (using your steam account). that way all the patches can be installed.

Next, visit this forum thread: https://support.stea...=1216-JMTZ-0860

I would suggest using the "autoconfig" first. Then try forcing the dxlevel.
