Ive attempted to reinstall windows XP because internet explorer disappeared off the laptop.

now its stuck on a setup loop and i cant do anything at all with the laptop.

Even when you reboot it, it goes to the setup program

Marc, can you provide more information please?

Exactly how do you try to reinstall XP? Please be as specific as possible, like ...

I first did this, then I did this. Next I did this ... etc.

Also, what is the make and model of your laptop?

I'm guessing you go to setup XP, it allows you to select a partition, it formats, copies files, and reboots. Then back to setup. Is that right?
Make sure that the HDD is set to be the first boot device, not the CD.

Its a Dell PP21L

I put in the installation disk and went to setup and then it went through the process of installing windows xp

i have hdd set up as first device not the disk as well

it loops to a blue windows xp screen with just the words 'setup is restarting' then it goes to a blank screen for a bit with the curser

then an error message comes up saying not enough virtual memory............ something else is written but it pops up and goes off in a flash so i cant read the whole thing

also had a different error message at times saying something about a write operation, straight away after either or of these messages the computer restarts it self and the same thing happens

Contact Dell Tech Support (preferably using chat on another computer) and get instructions for running diagnostics. Chances are your HDD or memory is going bad.

According to the Users Guide I found on the Dell web site here: http://support.dell....e_documentation

You should be booting the CD, not installing it from a running XP system.
