I have the warning on my desktop wallpaper.. WARNING: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC.. also the yellow triangle keeps popping up and opening windows to the notourious spyware downloads page.. I have read up on this trojan and I have done all the preliminaries required by your website before posting... and a few more suggested by other sites...... NOTHING WILL GET RID OF IT!!!

Your system is severly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show.
Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution.
So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused.

In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts.

Also, ... not sure where you have read the instructions to use Combofix, but the first step required before you run it is to install the Recovery Console.

The reason why Recovery Console is recommended is because malware damages a lot and causes an instable system - and because of that, it may happen that your computer won't be able to boot anymore. With the Recovery Console installed, there are extra options present to repair whatever malware damaged. Hi,

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.co...cle.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

• Viewpoint
• Viewpoint Manager
• Viewpoint Media Player

Then, please also uninstall Absolute Poker if you don't want these Pokergames anymore. I see you already uninstalled the other ones.

Then,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present (some entries won't be present anymore):

Ok I did as requested, except I could not find "viewpoint" in my add remove programs.. the other two were there and I did uninstall them..
Here is my combo fix log, and my hijack this log... But I did have a couple of other questions too... what exactly are the no name entries in the hijack this log??? What is the apple software there for? I don't remember installing that... and also when you complete an uninstall of programs on the pc-- can you just delete the folders where the program file are located to clean up the unwanted files on the pc or is that unsafe to do???

They are registry entries which don't have a display name. It doesn't mean that they are bad.

What is the apple software there for? I don't remember installing that...

In this case, it's related with your iTunes/iPod

and also when you complete an uninstall of programs on the pc-- can you just delete the folders where the program file are located to clean up the unwanted files on the pc or is that unsafe to do???

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.



This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Combofix gives this error if you didn't name the script CFScript.

Download above script and save it on your desktop. Then drag it into Combofix.exe

I did as you told me, but combofix doesnt seem to run like it did before..
the program loads.. the blue screen appears, it created a restore point, it said deleting files and folders and then nothing... I waited almost two hours, it seemed like it was hung up or something...
I restarted my pc to ask you what to do....
Other than that my pc is running ok...

Yes, it looks like it was hanging somewhere. Probably your AVG or other realtime scanner interfered here - so temporary disable them.

Can you perform a "normal" run with it? So, just click Combofix.exe and let it run (as you did the first time)?
Then I can see what is still present that you have to delete.

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this:
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Then, Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Please enable your AVG again.

Then, Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• For Platform, select "Windows"
• For language, select your language
• Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
• Click Continue
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Is there anything else I should do?

Anything specific that you recommend to keep this from happening again?

Also I still have the combofix icon on my desltop what can I do to clean up my desktop? Should I move them or delete them?
My kids use my pc quite often, I wouldn't want them to start something they shouldn't... you know kids...lol
