Hello! I'm back on this forum because i'm having trouble with my computer, and your help is so useful that I couldn't think of any other place :) My problem is hard to describe since i'm using a french computer, but i'll try to do my best. An image might makes things easier...

Posted Image

Well okay. The base of the problem is that when i'm clicking the green arrow to remove an hardware securely (retirer le matériel en toute sécurité in french, if it can helps) to disconnect, let's say, an external Hard-drive or my Ipod, it bring me that first box i'm pointing in the image, saying that "An exception (a problem?) occured when trying to execute shell32.dll, control_RunDLL hotplug.dll". Clicking on OK brings me the second box with the comon "Send an error report" thing. I don't know why this happens though, and don't know when it started since i'm not using it that often...

So that's about it for my problem...I'll post an Hijackthis log to see if it can help...It can be useful to say that, when looking at the running process, there's 2 rundll32.exe running. I don't know how normal this can be, but it been like this for a while...!

I don'T know if you can help for that too, but my computer is making a weird ticking noise. Nothing loud, and it's not coming from the hard-drive, i checked. Any ideas of what could it be? IT seems to be coming from the processor fan...But i'm really not sure since it's hard to isolate the sound. Maybe a fan getting old...Or a wire is getting in the way of the fan...Because it's something mecanical for sure, because it only does the sound when the computer is vertical, putting it on the horizontal makes it stop (but it takes a lot of place ^^'')

Anyway, here's my HJT log =) And BIG thanks for your help^^

To stop the error in the picture, you need to update a driver.

Click on control panel icon
click on system icon
click "hardware" tab
click "device manager" button
click on "view" menu item...show hidden devices
scroll down, double-click on "storage volumes"

From there, just right-click on the last volume and chose "update driver" let it connect to the internet .

Thank you peterm!

You may want to post the hardware clicking issue without the HJT log in the hardware section. I would pull the side of the case off and determine if there is a loose wire or something relatively simple to fix first. When a malware specialist says your log is clean, I will move this thread to the OS forum.

Thank'S a lot for that answer =) I... did not check if everything was okay, but i updated the driver and was so excited about it that i couldn't resist writing back ^^' I just have to reboot my computer to see how it goes, but it should be okay!

I guess that when you're saying the hardware clicking issue, that's the ticking sound. I'll follow your advices and post in in the hardware section!

I don't know if the log is clean...I tried to put it on a log analyser a little after I posted this to see what they would say (I don't know if those sites really works) and told me there was something bad about this one

" O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [COM Service] C:\WINDOWS\msagent\mshljn.com"

It says "Fuzzy Algorithmcheck (1.79 / 5.00), Nasty". I don't know what it can mean, but anyway...

Thank'S a lot, once again^^

EDIT: Oh well...I shouldn't have posted so fast...Still the same error message...Should i update the other storages volume drivers?

Hi there and sorry for the delay - if I can take a fresh look at your system

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Also, I saw that some things were written in french, tell me if you need translation

No problems there what I can't figure out my friend google helps me with :)

A couple of bits to play with

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [COM Service] C:\WINDOWS\msagent\mshljn.com

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

THEN

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\msagent\mshljn.com
    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.

  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

NEXT

Make sure that DSS.exe is located on your Desktop.
Click on your START button, then choose Run. A little box will appear.
Now copy and paste all the following in bold (including the "" marks) into the run box and click OK.

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

This will start DSS in a different way. A small window will appear.
Click on the Scan button.
If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a checkbox. If this occurs, just place a tick in the boxes in question.
Click the Fix button.
Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt.

And finally for now

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Logs required : OTMoveit, Daft report, MBAM and a new Hijackthis

Hi and thanks for your answer^^ Here's what you asked =P

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 was there, and I removed it.
i'm not sure what is "tcl 8.0.5 for windows" and "PS2"
And i don't remember what is "KsignaccessToolkit v1.0" ^^''

Here's the OTmoveit Log

File/Folder C:\WINDOWS\msagent\mshljn.com not found.
< Purity >

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.0 log created on 04052008_190203

Is that a good sign?

I had to change the

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

to make it start...Since my computer is french, i had to write "bureau" instead of "desktop"....In case you have to deal with another french computer a day or another ^^'

i'm not sure what is "tcl 8.0.5 for windows" and "PS2"
And i don't remember what is "KsignaccessToolkit v1.0" ^^''

KsignaccessToolkit v1.0 Obsolete Software for games
tcl 8.0.5 for windows Obsolete Software Coding programme

So I guess you can remove them as they were discontinued around about win98 :) Although you can still get tcl 8.0.5 from archives

Am I correct in that you no longer have the remove hardware problem ?

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :)

Double click OTmoveit once again and you should see a CleanUp! button, press that button, you may get prompted by your firewall that OTmoveit wants to contact the internet, allow this, a cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself

Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
3. Click NEXT
4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
3. Click OK
4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
5. Select the More Options Tab.
6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free program: It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Keep safe :)
