I seem to have become infected with what most sources I have checked out to be a trojan of the warspy family. My desktop background was changed to a blue and yellow box that says I have been infected and should consider getting an spyware remover. My browser would also redirect to various websites unwillingly. I've managed to eliminate these symptoms myself but the trojan itself won't die despite my best attempts to kill it (which included the smitfraud fix recommended for another trojan that sounded like mine in the self help section).

Update: looks like it might be a rootkit infection and not just a warspy trojan.

Here is my Pandascan Activescan log:

Please download FixWareout from here:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt)
==============================================
Then::
Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

6. ComboFix may need to reboot to finish its work. Let it.

7. When CF has finished running, it will generate the ComboFix.log which will appear on your screen.

8. If CF-Submit.htm is detected, ComboFix will generate this message box:

When I drag the CFScript.txt file onto the Combofix.exe icon, it begins to run Combofix, then it gives me the error "you cannot rename Combofix.exe as Combofix.exe" and closes the program.

Please advise.

Hmm that is strange.
But let's do the following instead.
=====================
1. Please download The Avenger2 by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
  • Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regapi32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbrowse.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\credigui.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pxcrt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsoft.nls
C:\WINDOWS\system32\protect.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscert.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\delself.bat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ytprhgrp.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Cii46.sys

Folders to delete:
C:\-462321886
C:\Program Files\AntiVirusPro
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Anti-Virus-Pro.com

Drivers to delete:
Cii46

Registry Keys to delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\Cii46

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, open the avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.
  • Right click on the window under Input script here:, and select Paste.
  • You can also Paste the text copied to the clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V), or click on the third button under the menu to paste it from the clipboard.
  • Click on Execute
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete" or "Drivers to Disable", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh Hijackthis log .
