The Problem:
I keep getting some pop-ups (even when the internet cord is completely disconnected). Some look like regular pop-up ads, but they're mainly for spyware and malware removal. Others look like system alerts and tell me to click YES to delete harmful programs. In most cases (even if I click CANCEL or the X), this will usually open an internet explorer page. Some mention Worm.Win32.NetBooster in particular. It has installed three programs on its own that I cannot uninstall: Spyware&Malware Protection, Privacy Protector, and Error Cleaner.
Now my programs are all running slowly, and my keystrokes are not all registering. Also, it won't bring up our usual desktop. I click Restore Active Desktop and it gives me a message saying:

Whether I click YES or NO, it doesn't do anything.

I ran our usual programs (McAfee virus and Ad-Aware 07) but they either turn up nothing or just a minor tracking cookie or something.

Here's what happened when I tried to follow the steps you guys said to do first:

ATF Cleaner - would download, but wouldn't run afterwards
System Restore - wouldn't let me click on Accessories under the programs
AVG Spyware - detected 7 low- and medium-risk items, deleted them but would not generate a report
SUPERAntiSpyware - would download, but wouldn't run afterwards
Panda Activescan - I tried numerous times to click it, but it just wouldn't open the link.
AVG Antivirus - wouldn't download the file

Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.


Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.



Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.

• Close all other windows before proceeding.
• Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
• If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
• When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
