The "Unrecoverable Volume..." error is NOT a good sign, although not necessarily completely hopeless. Sometimes if you run CHKDSK /R a few times, you can get past this problem - although the integrity of your hard drive could be on shaky ground.

I've tried doing some research on this issue and there are solutions that run the spectrum of possibilities:

1) You hard drive is physically damaged and needs to be replaced.

2) Your PC is infected with some malware or virus and must be cleaned or re-installed.

3) There is physical hardware defect with your IDE cable and/or IDE controller - causing corruption on your hard drive.
