Please try this.
Go to Start Run type in CMD then hit ok.
Then at the Command Prompt type in this exactly >chkdsk /f /r then hit Enter.
it Y at the prompt then hit enter.
After that restart your computer.
Let that program run then after Windows loads run the deframentation tool.
Then let me know if that helps.

After chkdsk and defrag, I shutdown the computer and started it back up using the start menu of course. It takes about 90 seconds for windows to load. Once you click on a user account, it takes about five minutes before some programs can be used, e.g., AOL or Internet Explorer.

Something else that may be related. When I am using AOL, sometimes the CPU goes to 100%, the green window shows up in the task bar.

DId checkdisk seem to fix a lot of things (per the window that it showed when it was running?)

Maybe a soon to go bad Hard Drive.
Does the computer freeze randomly?

Since this is not related to malware I would start a new thread in the XP forum where they will be able to help you further.

Here is the link to that forum > http://www.geekstogo...2003-NT-f5.html good luck. :)
