Hello,

For the problem with msconfig and since you told me the problem was after you unclick YAHOO MSG from starting on start up, lets try restore that on msconfig.

For the problem with windows update, please try this:

Step 1
Are you getting a specific error message?
If so, go here and check it

http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us

If there is no error, go to step 2

Step 2

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
<enter>

Try Windows Update. If it is still not working, then try this:

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
<enter>

Try Windows Update. If it is still not working then lets try this:

step 3

Download and install the following

Windows scripting host 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000

Thanks

For the updates the link you gave me for the error message didn't work but this is what won't install:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET Framework and gain complete control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Error 0x66A.

There has been several failed attempts.

MSCONFIG still gives me the message when I click 'ok'. Even if I do nothing while I'm in it.

Hello,

Your problems arent related to software but i'll try to help you with suporte with our tech staff.

I suggest removing ALL the toolbars during this steps, you can always put them back later. Im not familiary with Yahoo toolbar but i know they may causes many problems. So decide for yourself.

For the problem with the Microsoft.NET Framework update you can try this:

Please download and run the file at:
http://astebner.sts.....eanup_tool.zip

After this, please try to update again and should work. :)

For the msconfig issue we have to run the System File Checker. The downside of this, its you will have to get ALL the updates again.

Do you have a valid XP CD?

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below:
  • Click on START-->RUN and type sfc /scannow (note the space) (Let this run undisturbed until the window with the blue progress bar goes away)

SFC
- Which stands for System File Checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.

If you want to see what was replaced, right-click My Computer and click on Manage. In the new window that appears, expand the Event Viewer (by clicking on the + symbol next to it) and then click on System.

Please let me know how your computer its runnin now.

Thanks

Hello Rach083084,

Good. Now for your msconfig problem and since you dont have the XP cd, you can try create another admin user account and use msconfig with that account.

Go to Start > Control Panel

Double-Click User Accounts
Choose Create a new Account
Type any name for the account then click Next
Choose Computer Administrator then click Create Account

Log off your current account.

Reboot your computer, then log-in to the new account you just created.

Let me know if its work. :)
