Hi Twobitt ,

Not looking to bad, but there is a little we need to clean up.

Disable Teatimer

Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.

First:
*Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
*Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Second:
*Open Spybot S&D
*Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
*Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
*If your firewall raises a question, say OK
*Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
*Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
*Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Once your log is clean you can re-enable those settings.

===============================================

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Fix with HijackThis

(You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WayBlah] C:\PROGRA~1\ITCHPU~1\soft name defy.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe VirtuMonde adware

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present <== Fix unless Spybot or the administrator set that policy.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis (especially Internet Explorer!), then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode..(Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.)

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Itch pure

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "My Computer", or Hold down the Windows Key + E ), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\Itch pure

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "My Computer"or Hold down the Windows Key + E ), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe

After that, Reboot, and post a new HijackThis log here in your reply.

Thank you for reopening the topic.
A couple of notes.
I went thru and did everything you asked for. When I first ran the hijack this to remove the programs you asked for I did not find the following in the list.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WayBlah] C:\PROGRA~1\ITCHPU~1\soft name defy.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe VirtuMonde adware

Following this part of the instructions I did not fine this file in the add/remove programs list.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Itch pure

I then opened windows explorer as you asked and did find an empty folder called itch pure so removed that.

Continuing to the next step I did not find this file.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "My Computer"or Hold down the Windows Key + E ), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe

Hi Twobitt,

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pavas.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Uninstall.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Help.ico
C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
Folder::

Driver::

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\SysUpd]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\WayBlah]

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Posted Image

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Ok all done I'm going to print the report. It said I was infected by 3 items but did not give the option to quarantine or delete them so I'm going to keep the scanner open for now and wait for your instructions.

Hello Twobitt,

The three infected items are in your system restore points, and we are about to clean those out now, so nothing to worry about there.

ComboFix Removal
  • Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and tools used in the removal of malware
    [List]
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Reset your restore points

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

===============================================

Please let me know how everything is running and if you have any questions.

Ok turned system restore on and off. Everything seems to be running ok except that this website does not look right. It mostly looks like a word document very few graphics. I checked a couple of other sites and it looked fine.

Not quite sure what would do that, to just this site… try logging off and then back on to the site and let me know how it looks.

Tried rebooting and logging on and off and still the same. Not a big deal though. As long as you say the system is clean I'm good with that =)

Thanks so much for all your help.
