Hi Guys, not vey oftenI have aproblem with malware etc but his one I think needs your expertise.
I have been invaded by "SpywareSecure_trial_setup.exe" an cannot rmove.
I followed all your instructions re 'read/try this' before posting a 'Hijackthis' topic.
I have downloaded all the AV programmes you suggested and ran them all as per the instructions and thought I had got the spyware, but after several hours it returned.
I am running on a Mesh computer, (pre-loaded Windows XP so no disc) Windows XP SP2, home edition, version 2002. AMD Athlon™ XP 2000+, 1.67ghz, 512 MB of RAM.
I am currently running:

CCCleaner
Ad-Aware 2007
Advanced Windows Care 2 Home Edition
Avast Antivirus
Uniblue Registry ooster
Spyhunter 3
SUPERAntispyware Free Edition
AVG 30 day evaluatin copy.

I have copied the Panda search results to a Word document (waiting for you to tell me where to publish them) and also recorded as many of the pop-up windows URL's as possible.
I await yor reply.
Kind regards
Zanshin.

Hello Zanshin

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=====================
* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This.
  • Click on I agree
  • Then Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello Kahdah, thank you very much for helping.
The options you describe after system scan and logfile did not appear, nor did the log open on Notepad. To btain the information below I have "Analysed" and "uploaded to Trend" so at to be able to cut and paste any information at all. The first analasys with all the tick boxes had no option to cut/paste.....is te someting amiss with the download of HJT??)

Regards
Zanshin

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Kahdah, I now have another problem which is presumably why HJT did not displayresults via Notepad.
I downloaded DSS, performed a scan but no Notepad appeared. I did an analysis and it says I do not have permission to access without password (weird). Another thing, every time I reboot my computer, 3 x Notepad .ini windows appear with this text in.
"Desktop.ini(1)Notepad.
[ShellClassInfo] [email protected]%ystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

Re the above, I must confess to having changed a setting somewhere in relation to a (known) problem with my Hewlet Packard 7200 All-in-one printer. The 'known' problem in HP software is that it initializes three icons in the tools tray bottom right, at sometime I have tried to eradicate that problem and obviously disturbed/changed a setting affecting Notepad.

PLease do this and see if it fixes the issue with notepad.

Go to start > run copy\paste in this line.

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft then hit ok and it should run hopefully and fix the notepad issue.

Please download DAFT and save it to your desktop:
  • Double-click the daft.exe icon.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Select everything it is displaying there
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Then rescan with DAFT again - it should say now that "All associations are OK"
  • Close DAFT if you receive that message. This means that it is fixed now.

You are a PART genius :) .....Notepad only seems to partly comply with the DAFT fix as the DSS scan only returned
a main text scan.

I have just done a reboot and am still getting the 3 Notepad windows appearing on startup with this same code in.

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected]%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

Perhaps? this is stopping the Extra text window to appear after DSS scan?

Zanshin.

Please open up Notepad and copy all of the items in the code box below.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.reg on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
"System"=""
Now double-click fixthis.reg.
A window will come up asking if you want to let it merge with the registry.
Click yes.
=======================================
Next:
Please re-open Hijackthis and click on "Do a system scan only"
Then place a check mark next to these entries below:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Prefetch - {A66AA08A-9BF0-4e87-99E6-6972731D6B99} - (no file)
O4 - Startup: desktop(2).ini
O4 - Startup: desktop(3).ini
O4 - Global Startup: desktop(2).ini
O4 - Global Startup: desktop(3).ini
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebse...?p=ZSYYYYYYYYFR

Now click on Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
====================================================
Then:

Make sure that you paste the following file paths under the yellow bar within the OTMoveit2 program or it will not work correctly.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\ztyseqk.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\desktop(2).ini
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\desktop(3).ini
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\desktop(2).ini
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\desktop(3).ini
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\ztyseqk
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system\\DisableTaskMgr
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system\\DisableRegistryTools
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List Of Files/Patterns To Search For and Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
===================================
Finally:

Please download FixWareout from here:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log
