So I did a fresh install on a Dell Inspiron laptop. It ran great for about a week then suddenly gave me a blue screen of death for unknown_boot_file I believe. So anyway when I tried to repair from the xp pro repair cd the operating system was GONE! Any ideas? I think its a hard drive but not sure any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

See this post by Happyrck for how to create a live Puppy Linux CD.

Boot the CD then try to access your hard drive. Post results here.

I was able to get into the hard drive but I ended up running a hd analyzer and found 371 bad physical sectors so just bought a new hard drive and it works great now! :)
