I just built a new system. I am wanting to get another SATA Hard Drive to download music and stuff on. I was wondering how I could do that? Just hook it up and boot from it after i install windows on it??? I was thinking about getting the ST3160815AS Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 160-GB Hard Drive.



This is what I currently have, I think this would be all that you would need to help if not let me know.

I dont think you have to install windows on the second HD, just plug it in, and it will show up a another driver letter under my computer. It will be like a mass storage device. I think I'm right, I no expert thou

If you are replacing your existing HDD, you can "hook it up and boot from it after i install windows on it". If you're going to add it, you can just connect it and add it in "Disk Management" and use it as additional storage.

I am going to add it, just for downloading music and videos. Is there any way I can separate it or something so I wouldn't affect my other hard drive so, just in case i get a virus or something?

Scan all of your downloads before you open them. Like Outback said, it will appear as a separate hard drive. Not sure if that answers your question.
