:tazz: Hi

I have tried running in safe mode the following updated programs:

Adaware se
CWshredder
spyware nuker 2005
spybot
and xoftspy

no matter what is picked up and deleted, everytime I restart my p.c. xoftspy picks up 2 coolwebsearch entries.

CWshredder is not picking them up!

Are you able to help me get rid of the two stray coolwebsearch entries?

Thank You ;)

Here is my hijack log

Hi there!

The good news is that you do not have a CoolWebSearch infection showing in your log. The bad news is, that you are running two programs that are considered to be "Rogue" Anti-spyware. In other words, they do NOT remove/block spyware, but instead install malware on your machine, or do other things without your knowledge. Please see Here for more information concerning Rogue applications/sites.

Now, let's get you fixed up!

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - (no file)
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XoftSpy] C:\Program Files\XoftSpy\XoftSpy.exe -s
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Spyware Nuker] C:\Program Files\Spyware Nuker 2004\swn2.exe /h
  • O16 - DPF: {0E8D0700-75DF-11D3-8B4A-0008C7450C4A} (DjVuCtl Class) - http://www.lizardtec...ntrol_en_US.cab

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):
XoftSpy
Spyware Nuker

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

After you have done the above, please post a fresh HJT log here in a reply so I can review it!

Hi Kat

Thank You for your help. As it was xoftspy that kept saying that I had coolwebsearch I am happy to have got rid of it.

Here is my new log. As to recognising all programs on it. Well :tazz: I think I recognise most. Having said that, Looking at the log, I notice that under the 016 that I see a mention to lizardtech again. I did check that. I am not sure what Lizardtech is. It does sound vaguely familiar. ;)

Thank you again.

that is an optional removal, and it's ok if it came back. It must be a site you visit on occasion.

other than that...

Congratulations! :tazz: Your log is clean! ;)

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Is everything else working ok now? Do you have any other questions?
