Hello computer geeks. I am so happy I stumbled upon this website. Thank you for offering this great service. I have spent the last 24 hours scanning and logging reports as required in the "before you post your hijackthis logs" message. A little background on my situation... Prior to finding your site, I had updated my McAfee and installed Spyware Doctor and XoftSpySE, in the hopes of fixing my problems. The problem started Tuesday, very inappropriate ads (college girls gone wild sort of stuff) loading on top of other advertisments. NOT what I want my 7 and 12 year old children to see. Unfortunately, after all of the scans, I'm still having problems. I'm pretty certain doudleclick is involved, which I block using IE restricted sites tool. But none of the software I've tried has removed it. The scan did remove some other items though (haxdoor and vundo were on my system, along with some other things). I really want my computer to be clean, instead of putting a bandaid on it by restricting the site.

I just performed a hijack this and will include the text below. I also have the log for SuperAntiSpyware and Activescan, and will post those if needed. The AVG report said "no report available" even though I followed the directions to a "t". The only high alert that AVG found was wimad. something. Which it removed. Also, when I tried to install the SP1a windows pack, it said I already have a newer version and I couldn't figure out how to over ride it. I tried though.

Any help will be most appreciated... you'll be my geek hero! PS: Between the 3 programs I tried, and then the 2 I downloaded today (as instructed), I currently have 5 virus/adware programs running. Should I delete some of these programs off my computer.THANKS!

Hello cmonte3 and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Sorry for the delay. We've been quite busy lately.

Let's begin.

Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
  • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
  • Click "Next"
  • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
  • Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix

  • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
  • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
