Hi DeadPoetic,

There are three things I'd like you to do before we can even start.

1. Download and run CWShredder from:
http://www.intermute...r_download.html
Use the Fix button.

2. *Then click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure! I would just copy each file path and paste it in the field) MAKE SURE TO ENTER ALL FILE PATHS!:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbsys.dll
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ixplore.exe

Let the computer reboot when prompted.

3. Then download the latest version of HijackThis (1.99.1) and make a new log.

Post that one.

Regards,

Pieter

Download and install Ad-Aware SE Personal from the following link:
http://www.lavasoftu...ftware/adaware/
After it has completed installing, double-click on the Ad-aware icon to start the program.

After the program opens, immediately click on the Check for updates now link.
After the program has downloaded the latest update and installed them, click on the Scan Now button.

Choose the Perform full system scan option
Press the Next button.

If the program hangs while scanning, then do steps 4 - 6 again, but after selecting Perform full system scan, select the Customize link and uncheck Scan Active Process. Then attempt to scan your computer again.

When the scan is finished a screen will appear showing you if anything was found.

Click the Next button and you will see a listing of the bad files found. Right-click on the screen and choose Select all objects. You will now have checkmarks in all the listed items.

Click Next and then click OK at the prompt where it is asking you to continue.
When it is done fixing the selected items, exit Ad-aware.

Reboot your computer.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=9

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=9

O2 - BHO: CeresObj Class - {00000049-8F91-4D9C-9573-F016E7626484} - C:\WINDOWS\Ceres.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gnyakfcuha] C:\WINDOWS\System32\xpczzo.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ixplore] "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ixplore.exe"

O4 - Global Startup: hallslogon.exe

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: w8c6s4xcm66i7.dll.dll,wbsys.dll

Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Reboot into safe mode and delete with the help of Killbox:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\w8c6s4xcm66i7.dll.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\hallslogon.exe

Then boot back to normal and post a new HijackThis log.

Pieter

Just a question before I do this - are you *absolutely* sure that (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\hallslogon.exe) is a file I should be deleting, as my Internet is connected at university through Hallsnet, so I never suspected that particular file as being a problem.

No. If you recognize it as something you need, leave it alone.

Can you ask if it is indeed something installed for Hallsnet.

This particular infection comes with a file Global Startup, but usually that is called winlogin.exe so I could be wrong.

Pieter

I contacted the HallsNet team and they said that yes, that file is a HallsNet one and does not pose a problem. I deleted the other files, here's the new log:
